Information
In a classic ‘rags to riches’ story, Jean Leon had a poor upbringing in Catalonia, only to escape to New York and then Hollywood to seek fame and fortune in the 1940s. In Hollywood, Jean Leon found the success he was looking for and established the La Scala restaurant that boasted Marilyn Monroe, James Dean and Humphrey Bogart among its regulars.
n the 1960s he returned to Spain to purchase an estate in his native Catalonia, and was the first person to plant classic French grapes such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay in Spain. These grapes form the basis for the exceptional single vineyard Pago wines that are today recognised as among Spain’s most pre-eminent wines.
Since Jean Leon’s death in 1995, the winery has been managed by his close friend and confidant, the famous winemaker Miguel Torres. These are extraordinary wines that reflect the life and personality of one of Spain – and Hollywood’s – true character.
